I have this draped bust from my late dad's collections and I understand there many types. Most of the ones I saw for sale had a type indicated. If anyone out there can determine type by photos and/or some idea of value, I would appreciate. Not sure if it is worth 30 dollars or 300 dollars

Many Thanks

I don't know what you mean by "type." There were die varieties of the 1800 large cents, but they all fall under the Draped Bust design.

There was a Type I and Type II bust introduced in 1798. It is most easily spotted by the presence or absence of a curl on Ms. Liberty's neck. See if you can spot the difference.

1797 large cent, "Type I."

1903 Half Cent, "Type II."

I believe mine is a type 2. Yes, I was mistaken in what I was asking on the first post. I meant varieties. Not sure if mine has enough detail to determine.

It might have enough detail, but determining the Sheldon variety of 1800 large cents is challenging as I learned from experience when I owned a very nice example many years ago. A large cent expert might be able to attribute your coin, but I would not even attempt to tackle it. I know a great many things about U.S. coins, but assigning die varieties to U.S. large cents is not one of my strong points.

Probably a $30 coin as it is right now, but if it is a rare Sheldon variety it could be worth more than 300 dollars. The odds of that are very low though, but it can happen.

Can't be sure but I think it may be an early die stage of S-203.
