My latest arrival, a 1935 $10 note from the Dominion Bank. My first Canadian chartered banknote. More to come . . .

Arriving today was my used copy of Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Banknotes. It will be helpful in my quest for chartered bank notes. Very hefty too at 550 pages. The postman also brought these two: 1954 modified $50 BEATTIE-COYNE pfx A/H, the most common issue, and 1937 $10 pfx D/T GORDON-TOWERS note, the 2nd most common produced. The $50 has '22' written in pencil on it, but I am not sure that could be removed without affecting the note.

If the 22 is written in pencil... go to an art supply store and buy a soft eraser.... it's almost like silly puddy..... just dab away at it and the 22 will soon erase without too much detriment to the paper fibers

I am rapidly depleting my collection budget, but I find it hard to resist these Canadian Chartered notes. I got these today: a $5 Royal Bank of Canada series 1935, large signatures variety. Next a 1935 $10 Canadian Bank of Commerce which has, IMO, an interesting and artistic obverse design. The reverse isn't bad either.

I have not posted to this thread in a while because of a health issue but, I got this pc of the Vancouver BC Bank of Commerce. What an impressive building! This is my idea of what a bank should look like. Does anyone know if the building is still there?

Nice collection, some notes I have never seen (Bank of Commerce note).
I believe the term shinplaster for the 25 cent notes came to be as a result of soldiers lining their legs with them prior to putting on their boots to help keep warm during the war.

This will be my last Canadian note for a while, as my budget is just about kaput! An interesting 1937 $10 Bank of Toronto. It kind of amazed me that you can get mid 20s and 30s chartered notes for between 60 - 80(US) bucks or so, if you are willing to settle for less than stellar quality.

This one is not new, but I seek advice from you folks. This is a Bank of Nova Scotia $10 1935 graded note. The holder is bent and I don't think it could be flattened out. Would you leave it alone? Cut it out and put in another holder? Cut it out and resubmit it? The note is not particularly valuable. I paid less than $60(US) for it.
