I'm very new to collecting cents, so please excuse my ignorance on the subject of errors. I happen to come across a 1958 D penny and noticed the L in liberty is connected to the rim, also thought some of the letters looked odd.

Basically I just want to know if what I have is anything special? I'll attach a couple of photos. One picture will show the '58 next to a '57 for comparison if it helps any.

Any information/feedback is appeciated, still learning! :)

to CCF. Not a doubled die error. Is was common in those years until the mint redesigned the dies in 1969 I think.

Hello Nwtoc. I am also new at coin hunting. This site really helped me. http://doubleddie.com/228401.html You can look under Doubled Die Listings and then under whatever coin you are questioning in this case Wheat Cents then under year and it shows you pictures and markers to look for. Happy hunting. I just noticed there are no pictures for the 1958 D but you can look at other years just to get an idea of what a DD looks like.

to the family!

What you have is a MAD., Misaligned die where coin isn't quite centered, the press operators then get into press and "tweak" it back. Need clearer photos to tell if any Die Deterioration.

John1, I think your right it was '68 or '69 the obverse die design was changed (?), '59 for the reverse Memorial change.

The 58-D is just barely a MAD.
