It's copper. Zinc is 2.5 grams. Mint tolerance is .14 grams.

That's a large date copper 1982 D. The bottom left side of the 2 bows out in the small date, which is the rare one -- zinc only for Denver small dates with one (or only a few) copper small dates knows. Would be an off planchet error.

As the tolerance is .14 gr, that is a normal copper cent.

The 1982 pennies confuse me so much. So I should be looking for a 1982 d zinc penny?

The rare one is 1982 D small date copper. I'm not sure how common 1982 cents from Denver are, but I only pulled three small dates from my $25 box. All look like zinc (duh, those are the odds!), but I've set those aside until I can get to a scale or popsicle stick balance it.
