Hello everyone, From time to time I go pick up a roll of pennies at the corner market. I want to pick up 1 today after I opened it I noticed it was all new 2017 Pennies Denver Mint.  I decided to go through them one by one.  I found three with the same line going from The Shield to the I in America.  Is this an error? Any info would be great thank you

Good eye!

I'm surprised there are die cracks already. They must be really cranking out those fellas!

Definitely set those aside for posterity. The mints have become more strict about this stuff, I think, and have become more focused on culling out errors before they leave the mint.

Nice, definitely looks like a die crack. So, all three coins have the same die crack? Bonus!

Hi Angie - die cracks are just a natural progression in the life of a working die. It is interesting that cracks are already appearing as it does seem early on in the die's life. Cracks are not errors though, but in the opinion of many here, add character to a coin (e.g. Liberty Bell). Given the location of the crack, there is sometimes increased interest, like the cracks found on some of the war time nickels from the San Francisco mint that ran though the mintmark resulting in a $ look. One is featured here in our Optimizer tool.

Good luck on the hunt!

Average die life is around 1 million coins per die, striking speed is 750 coins per minute. At that rate a die only lasts 22 hours. And that is assuming it DOESN'T crack and get retired early.
