I typically collect early US and 1800 coins. The guy is offering all mints and dates from 1941 - 1947. Claims they are all slabbed in old green PCGS holders and graded ms-64. Not really my cup of tea but is this a good deal?

I think that could be a pretty decent deal depending on the quality of the coins. The S mint marked halves all have a decent value increase from ms64 to ms65. Some upgrades could be possible if they are in older holders.

You won't know until you see the coins in hand.

I asked the guy for more pictures and oddly he said no. He has just two pictures of one of the coins. He said his camera doesn't provide enough details of the coins. Seems fishy.

Mike come on , you should know better by now . First of all stay away from Craigslist . 2nd, he can't get you more pics of the other coins . And 3rd, $1400 would be a lot if those coins were not up to par . I don't care if their PCGS slabs, I've seen many other MS-64 coins that looked like junk to me .

Quote: First of all stay away from Craigslist . 2nd, he can't get you more pics of the other coins . So I like to live dangerously. What can I say? Actually I thought this was one of the more legit deals I've come across since dipping my toe into the dark world of craigslist. The dude lost me when he refused to provide more photos. I sent him a message stating that all I need is aerial photos of obverses with 4-6 coins at a time to verify the certs. Work is slow this week. It's actually quite entertaining. If I don't hear back. I'll call 41 action news and set up a sting. Maybe save somebody from getting robbed.

Plus these are the most common dates for that coin. If he was offering you the same deal for LWH's of the 1930's then that would be a heck of a deal.

I think Cascade's post says it all. That's what you should do.

Greysheet bid on the short set in MS-64 is $1,350. Most dealers will offer you $1,200 for the group. Not such a great deal.

My experience when I was dealer was that Walking Liberty half dollar third party grading was inconsistent. There were coins in MS-64 holders that were better than coins in MS-65 holders. It seemed to me that when there was a meltdown in the bids for MS-65 coins, that my observation explained it. Some of the S-Mint coins were quick sellers for me when I could buy examples that were nicely struck with good eye appeal, in MS-63 and 64. If he is offering a group of high end for the grade coins, it could be an attractive offer. If he is offering low end for the grade, it isn't. Although PCGS slabs with the old green label tend to be nice, not all of them were. The Gray Sheet bid on this set in MS-64 is $1,350.

Waste of time to pursue this given the risks. These are often found in ms66 and ms67. 64's are common. If they're premium 64's it may be a good deal but still probably not great. Why take the risk of danger.
