Royal Canadian Mint- Canadian artist Laurie McGaw has created a fun and uplifting collage of the places and things that make Canada great. Clockwise from the top: hockey sticks and puck, snowflakes, polar bear, inukshuk, Parliament Hill, Canadian flag, maple syrup, lighthouse, lobster traps, toboggan, Canada goose, canoe, beaver, moose, black spruce tree, Beaver plane, salmon, wheat, cowboy boot, mountains. The elements are roughly placed in an east/west/north/south orientation to reflect their location on a Canadian map. Together, they encircle a maple leaf that is the heart of the design—and the heart of this nation. Proudly engraved with "150 YEARS/ANS".
Might be nice to give to out-of-country friends and family. I prefer for me personally the half ounce silver maple leaf which is twice as heavy but only 50% more money ($29.95).
Many people will not like the coin, cause it can't be "flipped" or deposited with profit.
Lets put the flipping of the coin aside, I'm only stating on the design of the coin. I think the majority of people(not flippers) will like this coin of what it is. Canada. Has all the elements of a Great Country.
For the goalie not being on the coin, probably didn't have enough space on the coin so they settled for Hockey sticks.Canada's sport. Go Leafs Go!
Quote: Didn't know that the design was done by a Guelph Artist whom I met personally nearly two years ago.
This coin kind of grows on you.She did an excellent job in designing this coin. Every time I look at it I see something else in his design. Like the snowflakes and the fireworks. Nice job. I personally ordered 10 and will receive them tomorrow. Will be giving some away as gifts and a few will be put in my store far sale.
Laurie McGaw has designed numerous coins for the RCM, notably some of the Flander's Fields coins from 2015.
Her focus has been primarily on portraits, so this seems to be an unexpected change of pace.
There is so much our nation is known for that could have been on the coin such as back bacon, poutine, butter tarts, touques, lacrosse, etc. so at least they managed to get maple syrup in there!
I really like the design and think it fits well with the Canada 150 collection despite not having the official logo on it.
I ordered one... originally being from Cape Breton, the lobster traps got me!!
