I found this is a roll and, yes, it's pretty beat up. I've seen some nickels where the date runs into the rim but never one that has the whole motto and date cut off.

I've also seen those circular marks on the reverse before but have no idea what they're from. Thoughts?

I believe the circular marks are from counter machines such as coinstar

I'm not sure if it's from a coin counter machine or a coin roller machine, but it's PMD due to some sort of machine or shared nickel experience. Over the past few weeks, two other nickels were posted with the same damage. (The second one made me look for the first post because I thought it was the same coin posted twice.)

I'm not sure about Dryer Coin. Is the rim thickened and rounded? You can just sandwich it between two normal nickels to see if the diameters reduced a bit. If reduced and thickened, I'd guess dryer.

Why are most Dryer Coins nickels?

Do the rest fall out of the tumbler or?

I am sure that 99% of the US population does not walk around with a pocket full of exclusively nickels and nothing else in case their pants fall into the washer.

From a roller machine I would guess.
