Enough dateless to deserve a 50/50 vinegar/peroxide bath for 4-8 hours. Either date is a quess, can see where you thought so but not enough on left of final digit.

You may see enough after an hour to determine, if you want to see well, soak longer. I did that for temp hole fillers...

I was almost positive it was a 13, I have nick a date, but that would demolish its value almost entirely!

Thanks for the responses!

Last digit appears pointed at upper right, but bulge of upper loop of an "8" doesn't seem to show just underneath it, so I'm thinking it has to be the 1913.
Rest in Peace

Go ahead and use your Nic-a-date, you'll be surprised at the value they still hold . Small but still ?

The "D" mintmark on an 18/17 Buffalo is closer the the "E" in five than it is to the "C" in cents.

Your coin is not an 18/17.

Agree with consensus. I also dont see the start of die break above angle of jaw, although tough to see in pic provided.

The "D" would lean slightly backwards if it was the overdate. That die break Ckbrenner mentioned almost never shows up even on a high grade example. I've never seen it on anything less than an XF.

A couple of questions, if I may...have there been any 1918/7 Buffalo nickel errors found from the Philadelphia mint? Ive attached a pic of what appears to be an 8/7 ..?) but due to rim damage/maroon discoloration (?PMD)I cant make out a MM. Is there a 7 lurking under that 8? Also, we're told as newby collectors, not to clean our coins so I havent researched any methods, but in an above post someone mentioned a vinegar&peroxide soak..is this strictly to bring out details on a Buffalo nickel? What length of time is safe for soaking? Thanks in advance!:)

NOOOOOO!

He was talking about putting acid on a DATELESS Buffalo nickel! This ruins the value of one, if it already has a date.

By the way, I just had someone talking to me about 1918/7 P Buffalo nickel, but no such thing exists, sorry.

Only a single Denver working die was mis-hubbed so no Philly or SF Mint coins exist.
