While searching ebay for that elusive high grade coin, many times I have had to think twice about clicking the BIN feature, due to the misleading ' ebay tilt' pictures.

Coins look so much better than they actually are.

Stay away from those bright shiny pictured coins.

Even though the example I'm showing is a US coin, its effect is the same regardless which country it's from.

Here's the ebay tilt and the result is what looks like an extremely high grade coin......

Here's the exact same coin in a different light......

Beware-Of-The-'Ebay-Tilt'.........

Big difference.

First picture looks like an ms64 or ms65 grade.

Second picture drops all the way to a cleaned 'details' coin.

Well, even from the first picture some scratches should be noticed. More importantly, the little circle around the stars normally means the big area is worn out expect the small area near the stars. If it's really MS, there should be "wheel luster" across the whole coin.

Great point Wandering! The different luster on different areas of the coin is an important distinction.

I've fallen for that a few times in my first years of buying off ebay. But like you, I've learned now to stay away from overexposed images.

I just buy coins that are graded and slabbed on ebay. I trust them not at all on raw coins.
Rest in Peace

I am always weary of images of coins taken at an angle instead of directly above the coin.
99.999% of the time the angled images are done to enhance a coins appearance.
If the images are not up to scratch on an ebay listing I will normally pass it by without a second glance
