This coin arrived today, and I must say I really like it! It was sold to me as "BU", but there are some small marks on high points which may easily be bag marks. On the other hand, the edges are very square with sharp, bright milling. What initially caught my eye about this one was its rather small mintage: 100,000 compared to 1.5M for '62 and 7M for '64.

I have some regret that I bid against a fellow CC member for this coin, but I really wanted it--can anyone blame me?
I really like these kiwi Florins...I'll probably start a collection.

She's a beauty! I have a '63 sold to me as BU that looks about the same. Some bag marks. (I have a 1963 collection on the go, year I was born)

Thanks! And I agree...similar pecks on QE's cheek and the kiwi's shoulder could be a normal strike or more bag wear I'd guess! Very clean rims on yours as well...very nice coin!
I also did some checking, and it appears that 1963 was the lowest circulation mintage of any NZ Florin, the second being 1944 at 140,000. There must be an interesting story behind that!

Beautiful coin. The pre-decimal profile of Queen Elizabeth is by far my favorite of hers (is that correct that it changed to the next one with decimalization?)

Patrick, thanks!
I don't have any NZ coins around the transition to decimal, so I'm not sure if the portrait changed in '65 as with Canadian coins

The portrait didn't change till 1986. My coffee hadn't kicked in yet. That's my excuse & I'm sticking to it!

Nancy, I'm a little confused here.
There was the laureated portrait in '63 just like Canadian coins, and I see the tiara portrait for NZ coins in my Krause for 1967. So my question stands...did the portrait change in '65 or '67? Maybe NZ did the change with the conversion to decimal, later than Canada?

Sorry, I just checked again. The decimals do have the tiara, too early in the morning for me I guess. (6am) My humble apologies.

Nancy, LOL...I know the feeling. It's 13:20 here, and my coffee is just starting to "kick in". Thanks for checking for me!
