Looks like at one time it was a stick pin. The blob is from soldering on the pin. Traces of the pin along the N show that on the finiashed pin the obverse of Lincln would be upright while wearing it. The lack of wear would indicte that once it broke off the pin it probably was not carried as a pocket piece. It wouldn't takke long as a pocket piece to produce more wear than this coin shows.
Their is also material at the edge on the face side next to LIBERTY. hmm well this pin Theory is interesting indeed ... thank you for your reply on that .
