Yesterday I made my first coin deal using Craigslist! I traded all my nickels from CRHing for two ounces of junk silver.
What I sold: *All Circulated Nickels -1937 x10 -1938 x40 -1939 x38 -1940 x41 -1941 x14 -1942 x2 -1947 x2 -1947 Maple Leaf x1 -1949 x3 -1951 Steel variety x5 (4 uglies) -1952 x7 (3 uglies) -1953 x32 (21 uglies) -1954 x157 (90 uglies) -1955 x10 -1958 x7 -1959 x6
Better Condition: -1953 EF40 x2 -1953 AU50 x1 -1954 VF20 x1 -1954 EF40 x2
I received: -1968 Circulated Dime x37 -1968 Uncirculated Dime x16 -1963 EF40 Dime x1
How did I do on a scale of 1-10?

Take it these are all Canadian? I'm a silver "junkie", I'd like to trade all my old non-special Jeffersons (360) for a few bucks of silver coins like that. I'd say you got the better end of the stick! Sounds like you got rid of your junk, good swap!

As long as the 68's are all the silver variety you did ok, probably 45$ in scrap silver so doubled your nickels value
And I give that a grade of 10

Quote: OOPS my bad the no mintmark coins are 50% Silver No insult intended but it makes me feel much better in being wrong here when a supporting member with nearly 7000 posts overlooks a detail. Thank you Trout for the motivation! By the way: any thoughts for a 7000 post contest or are you holding out for 10000?

Quote: How did I do....? You tell us. Get a magnet and a calculator. See if any of the '68s stick to the magnet. Each silver '68 dime contains .0375 ounces of silver, .06 for the '63. Bullion buyers are paying about 80 cents per 1968 silve dime today. At the end of the day if you are satisfied with what you received that's all that matters.

Pfff, I barely need to use a magnet with their sound+whiteness (I checked anyways), and in total it's two ounces of silver.
Trout, there are almost never any mintmarks on Canadian coins because they all come from the same mint! We've only needed mintmarks to tell 1947 coins apart from 1948 coins and, more modern wise, to tell the difference between nickel-plated steel and 90's compositions.

You didn't tell us how you think you did.
Look up the definition of mintmark, it hasn't changed in hundreds of years of use. The maple leafs, p's and logos are not mintmarks. The only mintmarks on Canadian coins have been the H on early coins and W on recent coins.

Here's the silver! This is the Junk: Here's the '63 and the early-mid AU's Here are the high-AU's and (possibly) some MS's. The middle row is reserved to toned.

I think you did the right thing. You converted a pile of junk bin coins into something of value without a great deal of effort.

Lol DBM, I only doubled my money. Early-Date Canadian beaver nickels are hard to come by, with '38 being the second-lowest mintage of all beaver nickels. Essentially, I sold the early-date beavers for x3 of their FV, and much of the '50s for their FV or little more.

I sold $18.75 CAD for about $45 CAD in silver, so each nickel for about $0.12 CAD each I believe. And I've yet to see any early-date beaver nickels in junk bins to be honest with you.

I agree, great trade! I have handfuls of junk early nickels, I would gladly trade them for silver :)

The key to my success I believe was the amount of work I put into my craigslist post, It wasn't just:
Some Old Nickels for silver
Rather, it was:
Early-Date Beaver Nickels for Silver! (Trade)
I'm quite proud of myself
