Quote: Thousands of coins, silver bars, pocket watches and other items in the state's possession are going on the auction block.
The state is holding a two-day auction next week in Newark of items taken from about 1,000 abandoned safe-deposit boxes at banks and turned over to Ohio Department of Commerce's unclaimed-fund operations. It is the first such auction Ohio has held since 1998.
Apparently the State of Ohio needs to clear up some vault space.
Looks like an interesting auction. There appears to be some decent stuff (old gold, large size currency, type coins) mixed in with a whole bunch of lower end stuff.
I've never participated in these, but enjoy watching them. I can't but wonder, if bank officials haven't already scored what they've wanted. For instance, I've seen many entire series offered, with just the keys missing.
They have those around me a lot. Usually nothing of any great value. One person I know goes to them all the time. And he usually gets lots of STUFF. And that is about all, just STUFF.
I remember Mountainman, (he usually hangs out on the modern error forum) scoring a storage unit at an auction. He found a coin collection containing some 1955 Lincoln CentDDO's .
