I am trying to categorize my Mom's quarters. The Red Book does not go below VF20 for 1932 quarters and above. Does that mean that if they are not in that good of condition they are only worth the silver value? At this time it is $3.25 a quarter.

Probably a good assumption

You could always look @ this, or better yet, sold category on the bay.

I use the NumisMedia website a lot. Of the freebie coin pricing outfits, this seems to be a better one. The RedBook generally seems to run on the high side, which is ok I guess if you are trying to assess the coins for insurance or inheritance purposes. But, I think the RedBook tends to be a bit overly optimistic of actual market value.

I'm a bit confused. The Red Book generally reflects an average purchase price if thinking of a typical buy scenario during that year the book is published.

Have read over and over the (current) grey sheet(s) is the one to follow for more accurate expectations when wondering about what a reputable dealer go by for selling. Note the key word selling, does not reflect buying.

Remember buy and sell generally reflect two different expectations.

Checked my outdated Red Book and it goes below V20 and higher for 1932 and up.

Also check the mint. The common one list about melt in poor condition. The other two mints are scarcer and command a bit more premium, especially in higher grades for 1932. Thanks, Doug.

I have to agree with batboy that the Red Book tends to price coins on the high side. Checked out the link from fioti and it was very informative. Thanks all for the continual insight into coins. Learn something every time I'm on the site.
