[quote]With all due respect, if he didn't want the offers he shouldn't put up a best offer option on his listing. You are allowed three attempts and then ebay tells you your offer limit has been reached. [quote] True, when I sell on ebay I put a higher price (but NOT a Million)on some of my auctions and will take their "best offer" that I think is fair! It works for the seller and buyer - after all if you are a seller you should know the price of said item. BUT like I stated - NOT a million, maybe a few hundred over value - let the bidders decide the price!!

Quote: With all due respect, if he didn't want the offers he shouldn't put up a best offer option on his listing. Quote:All within ebay's guidelines and simply nothing wrong with it. Sure, the seller wants offers. Offers that are reasonable. The suggestion was that a "bunch of people" make offers "every half hour or so" that were "up or down by a buck each time." This was posted in response to someone that bid $200 on a multi-thousand dollar coin. $199, $200, or $201, etc. are not reasonable offers on this coin. This might be "allowed" by the best offer software, but people that actually engage in this practice are not making legitimate offers. Instead they are doing it to annoy/harass the seller, not in an serious attempt to purchase the coin. Just because something is possible to do, does not mean you should actually do it. This is just my personal opinion, take it or leave it. Is this the kind of behavior, we as members of CCF want to become known for? If you were the seller, would you appreciate being bombarded by such offers? Am I out in left field here?

Quote: BUT like I stated - NOT a million, maybe a few hundred over value - let the bidders decide the price!! Here in the US where capitalism exists in all it's glory an individual can ask WHATEVER they want for an item. If this seller decides he wants a million for an item who are we to tell him he can't do that? Since when in America do we get to decide what someone else should ask for an item he/she is selling? Trust me, the bidders will decide if it's worth a million or not. In the end the result will be that he is re-listing the item or moving the auction to another auction house.

There is no way of knowing if the seller has put a high price on an item hoping to get it but in the best offer category is willing to take a lot less. Who are you to decide whether I'm attempting to seriously purchase the coin or not? Again, ebay is capitalism at it's best, you can buy or sell pretty much anything you want and ask for and/or receive an amount appropriate to you as the seller or pay as high or low a price as a buyer. This just continues to amaze me that folks here get so up in arms over a given item and what the seller is asking for it. We can laugh and discuss the merits of an auction all day long, no harm in that at all. While on ebay we can make offers on items where the seller is asking for best offers for up to three times. If our third attempt is unsuccessful ebay steps in and says you are done making offers, and they do! I think it's time we all take a step back and see it for what it is, capitalism. In know way am I making fun of the seller. On the contrary, I sincerely hope he gets his million! It means the market price for coins should jump because of it. That's good for anyone wanting to sell coins. On the flip side, if one of my offers were accepted it means I got a great coin at a low price and I win. It's as simple as that. If a seller does not want to receive, what you call offers that are not legitimate, then don't add the best offer option. Sheesh....

This thread is giving this seller way too much publicity. I wouldn't want to buy from someone who writes a description that condescendingly regardless of what it is they have in inventory.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one.
Peace!

I know I'm but, I messaged the seller Feb. 22nd and this was the jist: Quote: Your coin has a professional valuation of $9500. I'm not sure what you want to achieve with a $1M price but, you're not going to get it and anyone interested in this coin can see the PCGS value, population, etc.
Consider a realistic price. Thanks I wasn't being condescending or harassing the buyer. Early this morning (two months later), I get this response: I may be a nobody weirdo but, come on! Notice it is still unsold.

This sort of organized trolling is what 4chan and bb.com/misc are known for and it ought to be against the rules here, regardless of ebay's. That being said, clearly this guy is some kind of a whack job.
