I just picked this up today. I've come across many of these medals before and pretty much have every different type of variety that I've seen, but I've never seen this one before. Ever. Considering that, I figured it must be rare and I paid a premium for it. I just wanted to check to see if any experts here might happen to know what this one is and what the value is to see if I got a deal or got taken. Thanks for any help!

Sorry to say I don't know anything about that token -- but nobody else replied so I thought I would.

I suppose it's possible that every single exhibit had a token for sale at that exposition.

As for it's rarity -- it may well be rare but that doesn't make it valuable. Consumer demand is all that matters.

Since you collect these and this is a new addition, you shouldn't fret about the price, not even if you over-paid, because you wanted it for your collection.

Besides, I see that it has been engraved so it's also a love token and that's nice.

I have the same token and several others from the San Francisco 1939-1940 Golden Gate Exposition.

Both my parents lived in the area then and remembered attending the fair.

This token did not come from them but from the usual source:

Golden Gate Exposition Treasure Island Incuse Lettering
Brass, 30mm, 9.80gm
Obverse:
Golden Gate Bridge, sunset, fair building
GOLDEN GATE INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION (Incuse lettering) / 1939 / SAN FRANCISCO BAY / PAT. D110016
Reverse:
Treasure Island map / TREASURE ISLAND

I paid around $20 for it on ebay in 2012.

It appears as though a handful of these have sold on ebay over the years.

I will say, however, that it is much rarer than most other Treasure Island medals.

There's no picture on this site, but it seems to describe your piece, specifically the patent number on the bottom of the first image. The first section, ending with "Official Emblem or Seal". http://so-calleddollars.com/Events/...osition.html

Yours has a hole and what looks like hand-carved initials, like someone made a keyring or a personalized piece of jewelry out of it. I hope you didn't pay too much of a premium.
