I know nothing about the series, but I came across this listed by a new seller. I wasn't the lucky buyer (it went for $79.99) but I am interested if it was legit.

Since it would be a $500 coin and a new seller sold it for $80, I presume it is fake. The motto on the reverse seems weak and its not strike as the other areas are struck up, so that seems odd. Its hard to say much more without better pictures

The subject piece looks quite similar to the fake in this thread; this, discounting the dentils' anomaly ...

Thanks for the feedback, guys. It's a new seller that doesn't seem to have much coin or ebay knowledge. She also sold a Peace dollar cheap because that was the price listed on the 2x2. 1871 was previously listed as a $400 BIN and starting bid of $199.99, not sure why it was relisted so cheap.

I did a bit of digging into this seller because she had a Morgan listed as a Peace dollar, and it was a few bucks cheaper than market. I figured if the 1871 was real, I'd send her a message suggesting she have her coins evaluated at a LCS so she doesn't sell at a huge discount. (Even if I bought it, I'd feel bad about the sale.)

Seller isn't familiar with how to use ebay, listing the same item twice because she didn't have a BIN option the first time. (I'm guessing she doesn't know how to use the edit system?) Ah well, if anyone is interested, I'll link her profile if you guys keep your hands off the Morgan when she relists.

Older, and less tech savvy, maybe. Unless it's an elaborate ruse to sell counterfeit coins, but in that case, I still wouldn't expect a BIN price so low. I figured it was a coin newbie. For what it's worth these are the other coins she's sold.

Selling a couple of real, cheap, common date coins is a great way to get people to think your fakes that you sell afterwards are legit. Typical Chinese fake-seller scam tactic.

@paralyse So that Morgan looks legit? That's the one I'm waiting for her to relist.

Looks like a legit AU53 or so 1921 Morgan to me, worth a small premium above melt.

Seated Liberty dollar is an obvious cast fake - the other two coins are genuine.

Almost certainly die struck, not cast.
