Notice the difference in prices. One set is $15 plus tax more than another simple because it has $5.65 more worth of circulation coins/traditional designs. I was expecting a flood of 150th coins but this is getting a little silly. Apparently the $19.95, 5 coin set contains the best examples of circulation coins that were hand selected for optimum condition.

Quote:Make that 4. There is another set that is in the March catalog and is now available to MC members on the RCM website. It is called My Canada, My Inspiration Collector car and it contains all 5 2017 circulation coins. -5 cents -10 cents -25 cents colored -$1 -$2 GITD Its getting confusing with so many circulation and proof sets and its only three months into 2017. Money Penney, any idea why only 5? There's a total of 7 different circulation coin including the two types of 25c and $2, painted and not.

Yes, I found it odd it only have 5 coins instead of 7. This collector card has the GITD $2 and the colored quarter. It is missing the non-GITD $2 and the non-colored quarter. So, this is not a complete set of new 2017 circulation coins. You can see for yourself on the RCM site as it is now available for ordering for MC members.

RCM makes this same claim of ALL Uncirculated Sets, no idea if it's true or not. I think the different types of sets gives people more choices. That's supposed to be a good thing as nobody is forcing us to buy any let alone each type. As for the $15 or $20 markup above face value, this is often mentioned and I'm interested in hearing of a better option - aside from outright discouraging people from collecting current denominations. I don't know if you collect newer denominations of circulation coin or not but it's not as if people are just too lazy to build their own sets. A common problem is getting rolls/MS coin from a local bank. It's near impossible and it would surely cost more in time and gas money to begin a major pursuit of $5 or so in change within a broader area. Buying each one individually on ebay certainly will not save any money either. Over time, it's not possible for the price to ever fall more than the price of a couple of cups of Tim's coffee. And I'm certainly not defending RCM but sometimes buyers of Uncirculated Sets appear to be a frowned upon segment of collectors. Yet the typical mintage is 60,000 or so each year and they usually do sell out. As a cross over between Circulation and NCLT, the way I see it, that's a fair number of people who are valuable to the hobby. So if RCM chooses to package up variable sets in this year of our 150th anniversary and it keeps everyone actively engaged in collecting, that's a good thing.

The set you noted as the 4th is the same set I mentioned. http://goccf.com/t/281484#2390376Quote: 2017 Canada 150th Commemorative Set includes all the new circulation coins plus a GITD Twonnie, a colored quarter AND a 50 cents coin. Sells for $26.95
With regard to the set you mentioned in the OP, which 50 cent piece is included in the $27 set? Coat of Arms or Canada 150 logo? @moneypenny, I have the same question as commems. I missed it in your OP that you said a 1oz Silver dollar. Quote:
-1 oz Confederation of Canada Silver Dollar 1867-1967 with a Woman Statute on it This would be very unusual. Doubtful that it is both 1oz AND a silver dollar so I'm curious which it is. Is it really dated 1967? That would also be very strange given that we are celebrating 150 years. Quote: I think the different types of sets gives people more choices. I'm all for choice but what I, and I'm sure many collectors want is one set with ALL of the 2017 'circulation' coins in one set for a reasonable price. It's also disingenuous for the Mint to assign 'mintages' to any of these sets and then have the same coins appear in other sets. In the end, none of these coins will be scarce and none of them will be truly collectible.

The Two Loons is silver and it's a dollar but it's not a silver dollar.

@CC-Ottawa, the woman statute coin is a proof silver dollar similar to last year's transatlantic proof silver dollar and the 150th Anniversary Home and Native Land proof silver dollar. http://store.gatewestcoin.com/cgi/v...95Q&t=483959The coin comes as a single proof silver dollar and a gold plated version in a proof coin set. And yes, I incorrectly said it was 1 oz which it not. It is 23.17 grams. As for the date, I am not sure. Perhaps someone else can confirm it. Also, the 50 cent piece in the $26.95 set is the new design.

. If that holds true, the same would apply to the 1967 series. I wouldn't expect Circulation coin or sets to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary to be minted in low quantities. I'd hope as many people will buy them as have a desire to. New collectors have to start somewhere.

The 1967 set has silver, so it's hard to compare it to the 150th counterpart.

Thanks MoneyPenny. Looking forward to that SD. Quote: . If that holds true, the same would apply to the 1967 series. The '67s aren't really very collectible either but have value mostly for their silver content. Until 2012, it wasn't even uncommon to find a rock dove penny in pocket change. Even in the 70's, the Colville coins were fairly well circulated. I still have 28 of the quarters that I pulled from circulation, at the time mainly because of silver value.

Coins-4-Fun is back to the business! Till March, he / she had only 1 coin from all the release, but for March release he/she was able to secure for loyal customers: 10 of Rhodium Barn Owl coins 10 of Glass Creature coins. Whoever wants to see the design and / or pre-order in advance - welcome to take a look at the Coin-4-Fun ebay store.

I'm not sure what you're getting at because very few coins in Canada are "scarce" and they're certainly not likely to be found for $25 or $30. What's collectable varies from collector to collector. The reason I mentioned the 1967 series is because many collectors have remarked that it hooked them into collecting years later. As far as 2017 coinage, it's not always all about us. It would be great if it might attract a whole new generation of people interested in the hobby, was my point.

It just a matter of time before all currency I'd digital. Even the RCM has a new digital/electronic in the works. I highly doubt there will be many new collectors in the next few decades. Sad.... But true.
