1976D nickel with the inside of the rails completely missing on both sides on top of Monticello . All the rest of the design is there but the x inside the rail is not. It is completely incuse and level with the field. Just wondering what the cause is. Is this an error ? The last pic is for comparison.

I think that was a design change. They added the ballisters around that time.

Apparently so coinmasters I just found another 76 like that . They had them in the 50 -60 and part of the 70s but looks like in about 73 they removed them and the back agin in 77 . I feel a little silly now lol . Thanks for waking me back up from my tunnel vision lol

No problem, now you know. They used to not have a railing with ballisters on top of the building. The first design change was on the steps back in 1940 or so they accidently made some of those in the wrong year, (1939 or so)

lol, I had the same problem with the site, until I figured this out. From there, you can go to other things too. I knew you'd like it.
