It's been ages since I posted here but thought I would share this one. It was listed as a normal unc. on the bay and the pics were terrible but I was fairly shure this was #1. I almost didn't pull the trigger because of the clash marks not matching any listed stages. Has anyone seen these clash marks on DDO#1 before ?

The CONECA website http://varietyvista.com/index.htm) has excellent high quality images of all of the Buffalo 5c doubled dies along with many other 20th century issues. It lists the Stage C as having a strong die clash under the chin but you coin has several additional areas of strong (and nice) clashing in addition to that. I'll check the MS examples I have.

If you are into the Buff varieties you may want to obtain a book I co-authored with John Wexler and Kevin Flynn called "The Authoritative Guide for Buffalo nickels." It's long out of print but the rarities and other info should still be useful.

BTW-I love the color on your coin!

I joined this site several years ago but, like you, I haven't posted in a very long time. Maybe that's why I'm shown as a new member.
