Any help on this appreciated! I think this is made of lead. It has a dimple on the reverse and no apparent detail on that side which makes me consider it could be a button...?

But it also has the shallow holes / test marks? on the obverse. And the heft that makes me think it could be a coin or token.

Sized about 25mm-27mm & 12.3g.

It does appear to be an ancient coin that someone attempted to make holes in.

Oh, the humanity!

That appears to be a rare AR tetradrachm from Segesta, Sicily. The reverse (top pic) shows Egestes/Aigestes standing right, with foot on rock, holding two javelins/spears in left hand, with two hounds at his feet.

There are several different obverse possibilities. Hard to tell which this coin is.

Wow! Thank you! I just looked up the Segesta Tetradrachm and it does look spot on.

The composition fooled me as being lead. It is soft and it marked up the white paper I had the coin placed on.

The shallow holes reminded me of the test holes I have seen in Indian Princely States silver rupees.

Just an opinion, but the holes remind me of the Pleiades Cluster. Seeing how Segesta was so close to the Mediterranean Sea, it could have just been a sailer. Quote from wikipedia "The name of the Pleiades comes from Ancient Greek. It probably derives from plein ("to sail") because of the cluster's importance in delimiting the sailing season in the Mediterranean Sea: the season of navigation began with their heliacal rising"
