Not an error, just changed both size and composition that year, heres coop's pix copper = 3.11gr zinc = 2.5gr Some call WAM's ( Wide AM 1998,2000) Transitional errors, where a die for the wrong years was used. Check our glossary for CAM WAM, learn a lot!

Now ya got it. But don't get too excited @ finding wrong comp error planchets, after the 82 change the stock coppers were all used, then started the zinc runs. Chances of finding one of those is slim to none. Spend you time looking for readily found errors, like those mentioned here on the forum. RPM's, DDO's, DVR's, the WAM's of 1998 and 2000 are great starts when CRHing!

I think the one you looking for would be the 1982 D small date copper. This would be a rare find .I do weigh all my 1982D small dates and also all of my 1983"s.

Wait up, William! monika is right -- don't forget to look for 1982 D small date coppers. Only one has been found so far. Coop's image is great, but may be from before the wrong planchet error was discovered late last year. (Crazy is right in that it's not a "transitional error," as that term is usually meant to refer to a wrong obverse/reverse die pairing during a year a new design is introduced. Keep asking the questions!
