Is this a large bust? I am confused with the spacing of the beads. I have net seem one with this much space between each bead. Thank you in advance.

It might be a Large Bust however as the area of the hair isn't clear, I can only guess. However the beads do look closer to the rim than the small bust variety.

But if you'd like to be able to recognize one from the other, here's how --

Count the beads - 132 or 120

Compare it to a regular 1973 quarter. The two types are very different when placed side by side. The photo near the bottom of this thread is an excellent illustration.

Interested to know what you find out and if it's a large bust, was this found in circulation? It appeals as if it might be a PL 25c, that would've been sold in pliofilm Uncirculated Sets. Other opinions may differ, not claiming to be an expert.....

comparing this to mine, the beads are too far from the rim. When I am looking at these coins, I use 2 markers the beads, which should basically be touching the rim, and the hair.

secondly if I question the coin I am looking at. I pull out another one, because there is almost zero chance you have 2 large busts in one roll.

The hair is the way I tell them apart as well, although I suppose depending on the amount of circualtion wear, that could result in the hair curls having less definition.

Don in nmkt, did you compare it with another 1973 quarter as ace suggests? The Large bust is noticeably larger than a small bust. Or you could also compare it to a 1972 quarter, which was the last official year of the large bust efigy. The 1973 large bust anomoly was caused by quarters being struck in error with an obverse die from 1972.

That's quite a find Rocky! Are you able to notice how the entire effigy is larger than the other '73 25c? Seems you might have stumbled upon someone's small collection that got spent or cashed for face value and ended up in that box of 25c that you got from your bank.
