Newbie here with my first post. When I went through my mint sets, I found what appears to be a triple die. All I can find is doubling, not tripling. Would a coin be listed as DDO, regardless of how many times it has been punched? The tail of the 2 in 1972 has three distinct tails and additional marks at the top and bottom left. This coin is still in the original mint packaging. The picture is taken from a microscope on x10 power. Opinions?

Is this a proof? If not, it might be die wear. It's sorta hard to tell what's going on without more pictures, such as the whole date in a level alignment.

to the forum! I think it is a doubled die, but I can't remember which one. How about some more pictures of other parts of the coin, like the motto and LIBERTY.

It is not a proof. I will go take more pictures of the date and other parts. If my memory serves me right (which isn't often) I think the date is the only affected area for doubling.

I would need to see the images with the 3-5 devices per image. That puts things into a size we can use. very close shots take away the spreads overall look. It makes it hard to match up with other coins. Even the master die doubling has some affect on the tail of the '2' on the date.

Looks like a 72S proof lettering to me. you said through packing, mint wrap you mean? Or 2x2?
Need wider view at lest 1\2 coin per pix if not larger please!

Oh yea, flyboy! Semper fi, or should it be Semper fly! I tell you what's weird, your coin has upmarks that seem to COMBINE 1972P-1MM-011 & 1972P-1MM-012. Each of these has one mark in what appears to be the identical location on yours, like a combined 2x...huh? Definitely something there, not sure if not just MD or master die doubling? \Check those out.

John1, I can't get a wider or larger pic. The pictures I have through microscope are as far back as I can get. I can get much closer (x40) but that won't help much for this particular coin. My phone can't get a clear pic that close, my good cameras battery is dead and microscope is too close.
Crazyb0, not a fly boy, I fixed what those fly boys broke. (College education to break it, high school education to fix it!!)

Well, maybe I need to get a loupe because the pictures that I am taking with my phone are through a science microscope eye piece (the one your kids use in school). My battery for my good camera is charged now, so maybe I can get some better pictures.

Here is a full picture without microscope. Not sure if it is going to help with anything. I do have it on the gray background, but still don't think that helped much.

Is this worth sending in to be graded?
