Can anyone help me out identifying this piece. Not even sure if the envelope info is correct. Pretty sure I have the orientations correct though.

Thanks ID ninjas!

@cascade, nice coin! It is from the German State of Isny minted in 1523 AD.

I'm going to recommend to the mods that this thread get moved over to the ancients and medieval section.

Thanks. I'd like more specifics if anyone knows and is it common or rare, any value?

Specifics?

Sure, you have a 1 Batzen (4 Kreutzer) from the German Free City of Isny. The mass should be abnout 3 g and the diameter 25 mm. The obv inscription is MONE NOVA CIVITAS ISN Z3 and the rev inscription is GRA CAROLVS ROM BEG. The attribution is Saurma 1516, Neu 153, Schulten 1383, and Krause MB#17. Grading yours at Fine puts the value according to my Krause at about $20. If you want to be a little more conservative and call it VG, then Krause calls it $8. IMHO, the market retail purchase rates for ISNY coins are a bit higher than the Krause listings. However, the coins of ISNY are relatively common, with an earlier (and perhaps a bit optimistically priced) Isny Batzen available right now on vcoins.

Here is a brother to your coin from my collection :

Sorry, one more thing. The "camera tripod"-looking thingee at 12 o'clock on the obv is the mintmaster mark for Albrecht Baumgartner.

Thanks spence! Awesome info. I guess you collect these things huh. A friend just came into a decent stash of them and couldn't ID this one. I might grab one or two just to have some hammered silver
