I am unsure of which mint mark are on these following SBA's These coins are scanned becasue using the cameras we have, they end up coming out blurry. Hubby told me last night to just scan them, he soooo smart I apologize for the lack of clarity in these photos but its worth a try to find out which mint marks are on these coins. Photo will be in next post

Ah... there they are! The first one looks like a "D", the rest appear to be "S", but I would need a clearer picture to be sure. Those SBA are notoriously bad for mint-marks!

Really hard to tell with the photo's, but to me the bottom 2 look like a S mint mark. Others look D.

I thought one was an S as well. The rest look like blobs to me. Could they be filled S's as in the variety type?

I downloaded the picture, rotated, and zoomed. I am now inclined to agree with ceaton! Still not 100% sure though...

The 1979-S Type 1 so-called "filled S" is a blob! The 1979-S Type 2 so-called "clear S" is barely "clear" and it is the same "S" used on the 1981 Type 1.

I'm not sure there is a type I&II for non-proof SBA. I'm pretty sure all biz strike S mints are blobs so to say. The D's are more defined, same with P's. If anything, you might have a mix of D's and S's.

I believe you are correct, ceaton! http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/page14.htmlI am not a "complete" SBA collector. I have one SBA page in a Dansco that I special ordered and it is a pure date-mint set with proofs. No spaces for 1979/1981 Type I/II, or distinguishing Wide/Narrow rim varieties either. Just fifteen coins!

To me, most of them look like either P or D. I think a couple are S though. Cant really tell by looking at these pictures.

Ceaton is right, the type I & II "s" mint marks are only proof coins, not the uncircs. The SBAs unc coins have many mint marks that are barely discernable with a loupe.
