1963 Franklin - Damage Or Otherwise

I am wondering if the marks on the face of Franklin is damage or die issues when made. At this point I am trying to learn as I get into this hobby. I am finding it rather addictive! scsaxe71 Valued Member United States 52 Posts	Posted 03/07/2017 12:05 am Hi gang, I have some questions as I try to learn about what I'm looking at. I took some more pics following some ideas found in the photo forum. The first one seems to my (very) untrained eye to have some debris stamped on it. Notice how it seems to have the expected contours of the shirt. This next one looks like it's a scratch, but there isn't a ridge that I can feel, probably just worn. This last shot looks like an imperfection in the coin. Didn'the see it until I took better pictures. Lots of things going on with this coin to learn from! Thanks for your patience as I learn. Any idea what would cause the ridge seen in the third picture? Maybe another coin hit that has worn down a bit? This coin has clearly seen better days! Report this Post to the Staff
coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 03/07/2017 12:35 pm Looks like a struck through debris on the coin to me. This was retained on the coin. So it is a keeper. The mark under the 'Y' looks like it might be a die gouge that is raised on the coin. The incuse marks on the collar looks like coin damage from the reeds from another coin.
