These are 99% silver. Most silver coins are not. That might have something to do with it.

Not familiar with 'Britininia's ' but a google search reveals they have similar silver content. So no clue.

Looks OK, have a jeweler or coin shop weigh it.

Not seeing much detail in the immediate area around the stars on the obverse so I'm leaning toward fake.

impossible to tell from pictures; looks real enough. I'm going to ask that this thread be moved out of the classic coin forum to a place there might be more information given

Have to compare ping against another known genuine ASE, not a Britannia.

I would say it is fake. The date does not look right to me.

I would of tried to compare the pings of another ASE if I had another one. So far it passed the magnet test, the the ping does not last as long as the Britannia.

Nothing screams fake to me. Britannia coins (at least the 999 fine ones) have a slightly smaller diameter than ASE so the ping will be different. If you have an Android phone there is an app you can download call Bullion Test. It listens to the ping frequencies of your coin and compares them against the average of a random sample of known coins to help determine authenticity. I believe the free version will allow you to test ASE. Obviously you would use this in conjunction with all the other usual tests, but I have found it helpful and accurate. You would also be well served to take it to a trusted coin or PM dealer for their opinion.

From the pics given it looks like a normal 1999 bullion silver eagle. Normally sells for $26-29 in BU condition
