1- Will a Canon SX20-IS, 12.1 megapixels, 20x optical zoom, with an image stabilizer and a zoom lens 20x is 5.0-100mm do the job.
2- Do I really need bellows to make this work?
3- Will do adjustments raising and lowering coin for optimum results so what is approximate distance from lens to coin just as a starting point?
4- Is the utility software on Canon website what I need for viewing on laptop, naming file, and clicking picture.
5- I have 3 Janscos, a McGyvered tripod, and planned on using an adjustable bolt inside black tubing, all surrounded by a white box, does this sound workable?

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think much zoom, not sure but would at least like to capture some Canadian silver halves and dollars suitable for posting for grading opinions and eventually ebay maybe.
A number of them may be MS 65 and with toning.

priorpence. question are you looking for a point and shoot camera. if you are considering a DSLR. to do coin photography. take the time to read the 400 dollar thread. if you are looking at getting. setup to do coin macro photography. you can save yourself. alot of time plus money. I would check out that thread, then contact .rmpsrpms. open any of his threads. He has alink attached on his posts. He can set you up calibrate the equipment. once you get going post some coin photos. we will all help you get. to where you want to go. this is a suggestion for you.

You'll just need to try it out. I have a Canon SX260HS with similar specs to yours and while it takes great pictures for a point and shoot overall, for coin pics it's not so good. I have better luck with an older Canon A590 when it comes to coins. Even my Samsung Galaxy S6 seems to do better with coins than the Canon SX260.

when I first began taking photos of coins a few months ago, I thought I needed the best camera available. I read through the 'best on a $400 budget' thread and began to trust everyone's opinions. My setup is basically a Canon EOS 12MP (I don't even know the zoom as I've never had to use it. Which is the answer to your second question :P) I've got a Nikkor El Nikkor Magnifying Lens which does the zooming for you, and a helicoid focussing wheel to get precise focus on the coin. Mounted on a sturdy tripod which can go up quite high, to 60cm! and with different extensions (these are not bellows) I can arrange the coin to fit the frame of the camera window.

Your number 3 question: Its hard to give approximate measurements, I just quickly found out through trial and error. The canon software came with my camera and I use liveview and control the camera from the computer fully.
Your number 5 question: Set up sounds good to start with.

So your setup sounds really good, if you have a good zoom and good lighting and use the software to shoot your photos then I'm positive you will get good results.

I got my full set up for about £350, and I am absolutely beyond happy with it. I prefer using the magnifying lens and extensions than to using zoom. Here are some photos I took recently using this exact setup:

^^^ Actually, the date is a tiny bit unfocussed, but I'm no expert and I'm still learning!
