How often are we searching the same coins over again. When I started EARNESTLY CRHing in 2014, I would mark the coins I had set aside for a second look so that #1) wouldn't waste time looking at it again and #2) to see how long it took to " recycle" to me. At first just my initials, then month/day, then realized year wasn't specified so changed Sharpie color. Lastly started putting the date # , 31 for Jan. 31st etc. Usually there were at least 150-200 markers per box of 2500.

This has gone on for three years plus now, and ya know, I've found only 2 of my marker pennies and those were in the same box less than a month from dumping back in. That was two years ago at least, haven't even a hint of marking. Nothing has changed, get boxes from same branch bank and dump at another branch banks location. They still use Brinks, from the Fed I assume in KC (maybe St. Louis).

Has any of you done or experienced similar?

I haven't done enough CRHing to adopt a system like that, so I have no idea.

All the nickels I have will probably just go to Coinstar so they can be mixed in with everyone else's change, rerolled with even more people's change and then get a box from a different bank in a different town.

By the way, now that you've overtaken me, I'm patiently awaiting your 999th post contest!

Upon reading the title, I thought you meant coins that had been swallowed by people. (I forget who posted about the mint's corroded coin reclamation program, but I went to a link posted, and the mint also has a program for coins that were swallowed by people or animals.)

I haven't done halves in a while, but I marked my birth year coins by "Spocking" them. They got sharpie to make his hair look like Spock, and I left enough of his hair uncolored to make it look like he had pointy ears. I'm still waiting on someone to post a pic here..
