Hi all. I got some great help with a half dollar I wondered about so I will ask for help with this old 1895 quarter. Could this be a mint error on the quarter? Thank you

to the family!

Need clearer pix to really see whatsvgoing on. The mint didn't do errors in that manner, has to be PMD, someone damaged coin. Why? Anybody's guess. Testing silver content, making jewelry, countermarked? Does it appear to be bulged out on the bust face opposite? Can't tell from pix, that may be a punch, but looks drilled, and is centered. Maybe it was a piece of jewelry, a broach that lost its hasp?

The mark in the middle is tampering for sure. I think I even see a little bit of a raised portion on Liberty's face? You might have a misaligned die there though. The reverse looks slightly off centered, and I'm not sure if it's the angle of your lighting. (No premium there, just an interesting quirk.)

someone drilled that out..with a drill bit.. it is too clean to be anything else..and there is no outward pressure marks for it to be a hit with a bb gun or similar instrument..

It's PMD with a drill.
