I recently purchased a PCGS MS64 Peace dollar and based on the ebay seller's pictures everything looked good. I received the coin a few days ago and noticed several milk spots on the reverse which weren't visible in the seller's picture. The obverse is okay, it matches the seller's picture. My question is what should I do about this? If I do return it I think I'll have to pay return shipping and I'll also lose the customs/duty charge that I had to pay since I'm in Canada.

The biggest spot is directly under the "CA" of AMERICA and it is very noticeable and I would not have purchased the coin if it had been visible in the seller's picture. Is the coin in a reasonable condition and maybe I'm expecting too much?

The seller's picture is first followed by a few pictures I have taken.

Thanks

What year is the coin and what did you pay for it? I guess it depends on how much you will be out. You may just want to resell it,but be honest about how it really looks to the new buyer.

Thanks for the reply. The coin is year 1923 and I paid $49 for the coin + $9 for the shipping + $10.5 in custom charges. The customs charge was surprisingly high. So I would lose about $20 in just returning it. Even if I resell it to someone else I would lose that amount. Also, I believe ebay takes a cut.

Maybe you can send the pics of the spots to the seller and ask if there's anything they can do to make things right. Explain that it's not worth it to mail back and maybe they will do a small partial refund?

Well, I actually see the milk spots on the sellers photo. He just overexposed the picture.

To me you have a chance at ebay saying the item is not at it appears. I see them but not nearly as much as I see them in your photos.

At minimum I would ask for a partial refund.

Personally, I don't care for the weak strike.
