Nobody is claiming it to be a large cent; looks like a silver coin. Hard to tell if it's a fake.

It still amazes me that people will fork over that much money for a coin that's unauthenticated. And the pictures are not nearly good enough to do it yourself. And by the time you get it authenticated (assuming they even do it) ebay's 30-day period will have expired. And I note that the seller makes no claims except that the coin is dated 1803. That makes it hard to impossible to file a SNAD.

It is listed in the genuine coin category as a Large Cent, Draped Bust. That is a statement in and of itself. "Beautiful coin" makes an implied claim that it a genuine coin. "Found in my grandfather's safe who was an antique collector" makes a claim that it is an "antique" (not a modern forgery). I think it would be very easy to file a claim for SNAD. It is not "beautiful" if it is a counterfeit. It is not a "coin" if it is a counterfeit. It is not an "antique" if it is a counterfeit. If it is a counterfeit, it is not a "US, Large Cent, Draped Bust(1796-1807)". Perhaps the buyer that paid $655 will find out it is fake and file for a refund -- I hope so.

For the historical record: They sold a very fake Gold American Eagle in December. 152377603466 No feedback was received. They sold a Perth Mint 1 oz gold bar in early March. 152450572831 I don't know if real or fake, but suspect fake.

"Found in my grandfather's safe who was an antique collector." Grandpa probably locked it away because he knew it was questionable.

Sellers list in the wrong category accidentally quite often. In my opinion it's a FAKE Draped Bust Half Dollar. The pictures are fuzzy but looking at the obverse I don't see the denticles reaching the edge of the coin.

It is a fake. Period. Doesn't look right at all. Stars are wrong, rims are wrong. Date has that puffy "marshmallow" look. 99.99999% convinced.
