Thanks for all the help on here... I am still going through boxes of coins... I found a confederate note that looks exactly like this :

http://cgi.ebay.com/1861-5-CONFEDER...cmdZViewItem

However, in the lower right corner it had a V instead and around the bottom ant top edge in the green border it says FIVE FIVE FIVE....all along the top and bottom. I can't find an example of this design for the 5 dollar note dated Richmond Sept. 2nd 1861 The number at the top says 8644

Thanks

The link says..page not responding

Although I know very little about confederate notes, they are very nice and I hope to own a few in the future

Edite to add..In the sale section, probably a bit down the line, there were a few confederate notes for sale, try looking at those for comparisons

I found one that is a counterfit because of the SN, but it looks like that but doesn't have a known counterfit SN or date... soooo.... what is it...

can you give a picture of the note? check the signature, Almost all of the signatures were usually in brown, red, or blue ink. If your CSA Note is signed in black, it is most likely a counterfeit... here is a site that may be helpful to tell if it is genuine :)

hmm, it is signed in black, but the numbers don't match any on the list.
