This is the second one I found a little while back and while technically correct, this thing is up to $26 with 3 days left! Let me know if I'm overlooking something but, this is pretty much worth one cent, right?

This is stupid. The same seller has a 1998 CAM at fifty-one bucks. You are correct in that the 1999 CAM is the normal circulation strike. (The 1998 CAM is the normal circulation strike too.) What I need is a bucket of 1998 and 1999 cents so I can list them as "Buy It Now" for [I'm doing the math now] $1.50 plus shipping. This nets me zero after cost of shipping and materials, and I can write a description letting people know it's not the rare one.

This seller is playing off of buyers' ignorance, and it's got me riled up. There is technically nothing wrong with the listing though- no claims that it's rare or anything.
Rest in Peace

Normal cent

And, selling get an RPM for $19.95? I couldn't even get $2.50 for three and two were MS!

I didn't even look at the seller's other items but, here's the 1998:

Seriously. Everyone send me your MS 1998 and 1999 cents! It's a good cause, though I suspect "sketchy" sellers will just buy out my stock to resume peddling their garbage.

Item name: "1998/1999 CAM Lincoln Cent (Penny) -- NOT RARE. WHY ARE YOU BUYING THESE?"

Item description:

Quote:
The 1998/1999 CAM is the NORMAL reverse style for business strike Lincoln cents. They are worth face value. Okay, you might have heard that 1998/1999 CAM cents are rare. Yes, but that is only in proof cents. You can tell if a coin is proof by its mirror fields and S mint mark. This is not a proof cent, nor are many of the lower priced 1998/1999 CAM cents.

Please don't buy this. Leave my sale listing up so others can learn as well. Thanks!

I really want to do this now, so I'll have to start setting aside those years. (Possibly also 1998/1999 D cents as well.) Is there any ebay rule against vigilante listings?

--and it's worth exactly one cent! Maybe I should start selling normal bus. strike CAMs for 26X my cost? But, I couldn't live with myself.

Maybe we should all buy one of these:

380177877469

Then list the coins individually as described.

Who knows, maybe you'll actually find a WAM in there (though I highly doubt it).

We'll call it the "Official CCF ebay Buyer Stupidity Quotient Study."*

Edit: I just now read the description of the above listing and even it speaks of looking for the Close AM variety! What is this world coming to?

*Of course, results would have to be published in a peer-reviewed journal.

Good--if they're looking for the Close AM on BU cents, then the odds are better for us on proof coins.

What in the world lol, I can imagine someone punching a wall when they realize what they've actually purchased 20 years from now. Hopefully they don't waste all their money on these "varieties"

He mentions in the description that the funds are going to be donated so maybe that's why. Puzzling though...

Hey Spruett, if you check the 1998's bidding history, I spot a shill! Shill jacking up to forty, caught one, now is incrementing slowly! Poor sucker...

Speaking of suckers, I've looked all over for free emjois of a dancing lollypop to no avail. Anyone else have any luck finding this perfect graphic demonstration of one who has drank too much ID-10-Tea?
