A while back I started collecting 1825 Half Cents because the total mintage figure was so low and the prices were somewhat reasonable. I actually believed I had found a new 3rd variety among the many I had collected. I want to get rid of them now, but what I want to figure out is how to market it with the PCGS population figure.
In other words, PCGS states there are 1,500 surviving examples. They have around 500 of those graded. (NGC & ANACS have another 600 between them). So does this figure mean that one could approximate there are 400 surviving, UNGRADED examples? Obviously the 1500 is a running estimate, but if these statements were taken as undeniable facts, would my assumption be correct? Or am I missing some essential fact? Because if it were taken as fact, my 60 1825 Half Cents (ungraded) would mean I possess 60/400 examples.

Some of those 1,100 slabbed coin may have been the same coin resubmitted several times to try to get a better grade.

If there are only supposedly 1,500 left if you dumped 60 raw coins into the market place I would think the value of the raw coins would quickly pull less and less money after each subsequent ebay listings.

Well I don't want that to happen then. I would want to just find a Half Cent collector somehow. Is there a forum for such collectors? I don't want to violate selling rules on here, but perhaps a direction to such a forum is acceptable?

I actually don't envy your position. You have a difficult task ahead of you trying to unload raw coins of a date that is sort of scarce in a series that is not widely collected with many certified examples out there.

I am not a marketing major but it seems the demand outs the supply.

If it were me I would choose the worst example of the coins and list that one first on ebay. If there were 50 people looking to complete their Half Cent collection and no other examples were currently on the market or any affordable examples were available you would have a 50 person bidding war. I would start with a high reserve price to see what the current market for the coin would bid it up to. I would wait a month or 2 to list the 2nd worst example if the first one sold as a BIN at the price of the 2nd highest bid from the previous auction.
