This large cent has been dipped in a cleaning solution. The Orange color seen in the hidden recessed areas of the design elements are because that cleaning exposed the least circulated areas of the coin with that "fake" color.

Once a copper or bronze coin has been chemically cleaned it will rarely return to a Retoned condition and will be spotted as a cleaned coin for a very long time.

If acetone doesn't help, try a long soak in mineral oil, may take days, then pick lightly w/ toothpick. That at lessen the effect, but there may be porosity or off-coloring left behind.
