Hi Alex Although I would be interested to see pics of your coin, offers to sell on the forum require that you have 50 posts. If the coin is authentic it is what is known as a mule,(2 denominations on the same coin) and would carry a substantial premium,, However there are many different ways that these type of coins can be faked, authentification by TPG is a must for such coins. May I ask, with whom you are sending the coin to? NGC or PCGS? Also, a good quality pic would be nice. You did not mention which type of quarter-dollar combo, or the relation, (which is obverse (heads) and which is reverse (tails)). So some detail along with the pics would be great.

Your coin is a Magicians coin. It is an altered coin. If you look at the obverse of the coin, just inside the rim, you will see the line that was caused when the two coins were made into one. The dollar coin was shaved and hollowed out, then the quarter was shaved and placed into the shell of the dollar. These coins have NO numismatic value. They retail in the $6 to $8 range.

If you need proof, take a coin out of your pocket and drop it on your kitchen table, it will have a "ring" sound to it. Then drop your "dollar-quarter" coin, and it will have a "dull" sound.
That dull sound is 100% proof.

ansarah, thanks for the pictures!! I believe that you have an altered coin. I can clearly see the machining on the front of the coin where the $1 was hollowed out to receive the quarter. There is clearly a rim inside a rim. These are commonly called Magician's coins and usually they are made with 2 heads. This is the first one like this I have ever seen. Thank you so much for sharing it!! I'm slow

Im afraid ND is right,, the high relief on the quarter and the rim within the rim are dead givaways that the coin was machined and joined.

The quarter is plated. This nolvety coin was made in great numbers in 2002 after the appearance of the true mule coins. They are great attention getters, but that is about it.
