I found this Peace dollar just as it was ending as grabbed it without looking real close at it. Now I'm concerned. Something about the metal looks off to me. Did I get a counterfeit? Thanks in advance, Blair

Hmmm, looks like it has mushy details.

It is probably real but it is not worth much regardless. It looks somewhat worn and has details on the eagle. The front looks a lot better than the reverse. How much did you pay? If you paid much more than its silver value you paid too much. If you get a nice 1921 in MS condition then you have something.

I only paid 17.00 for it. So it's not a huge loss if it's not real though I will go to ebay in an attempt to get a refund if necessary. The seller has 100% positive feedback so I may be worried about nothing. It's the look of the metal that bothers me... it has an "aluminum" look to it ...

Weigh it. Quickest way to determine likely authenticity, although I see nothing of concern.

I will when I get it though I doubt I will need to. Thanks, Blair

Just take a magnet to it and see. These commonly have mushy details, so that doesn't concern me.

The color looks okay to me and light strikes are common on Peace dollars. The only thing that gives me pause is a (apparently) uncirculated Peace dollar selling for $17 on ebay. Was the shipping $5+? It looks like a good deal.

No, the shipping was 3.99. I contacted the seller (he's not a coin dealer) and he said he's had the coin for a long time and believes it's real. He offered a refund or said he would stand behind the coin. I'll post better photos when it arrives as I will want an idea on grade. Thanks again

Quote: No, the shipping was 3.99. Yeah, by all means take delivery and have a look. $20.99 delivered for an uncirculated Peace dollar is a good deal.

Look more like a slider AU to me.

It has damage on the eagle which may be why it was selling cheap. Look at the eagle and notice two big cuts in it. I saw a fake 1916-D Mercury dime today that my LCS dealer showed me to illustrate the point that when an expensive coin is selling cheap ($1600) it is a red flag. No matter what anyone else may say it is "buyer beware" and it is your money at stake.

You're right Terry 100% but I also know I have bought items on ebay that turned out to not be authentic and in every case after opening a case with ebay or in one case paypal I received a refund including shipping. The only thing I was out was my time. Quote: Look more like a slider AU to me. It well could be. I'll have to wait until I have it in hand to see. I wont be disappointed in either case. I don't buy the coins to resell them and it will have a nice place in my collection. Thanks again everyone! Blair

Quote: It has damage on the eagle which may be why it was selling cheap. Look at the eagle and notice two big cuts in it. Just an FYI: That is not damage. Those are normal bag handling marks and in no way make the coin ungradable. Remember this is a $25 coin if it's BU so $21 delivered isn't extraordinary.
