How easy is it to complete a Lincoln memorial set from roll hunting? I'm thinking of doing this set; just the business strikes, no proofs. I was looking at putting the coins in a dansco 7102 album.

The 1960 small O is hard to find. I haven't found one yet. The rest are doable.

The toughest will be the 1970 S small date. This one I have yet to stumble across. Both 1960's variations are much more common, but the Small is a little on the tough side.
If just going for Date/MM Then easy.

It is quite "doable" to put together a used set, by that I mean you wont have high grade coins from circulation. The best that I've found recently is in the XF40 to AU 55 range, the zincs are getting nasty quickly, some years seem better than others on the original quality of planchet. I've searched through over 3/4 million cents since Jan of 2014, never have I found either of the above mentioned, a 1970S Small Date or the 1960P small date in the raw. I've been able to purchase/win at auction several 1960 smalls for a reasonable charge, ranging from XF to MS60+, might have some around still...Good luck, it does depend on your area of the country for some mintmarks especially, east coast, west coast thing.

Bmar The shape of the 0 is the key for the 1960 series. Round and Oval

Ok, thanks. I have seen pictures of the two styles and it is good to know what to look for.

with the above. I don't have a Dansco album but have been told they're quite nice. I see the 7102 has holes for 2009 Bicentennial cents. Do you plan on filling those as well? While probably less tricky than the small dates, finding all of the 2009's may be the next hurdle.

I think Jefferson nickels are easier, but the Lincoln Memorial cents should be doable. As said, some of the varieties could prove difficult.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm aiming at all coins to be at least XF if not AU. I don't mind buying the 1960 and 1970 varieties as long as I get the rest from roll hunting. I do seem to find quite a lot of 2009 cents, so I'm not too worried about them.

In my lifetime, I've never found a 1960 Small Date and I've only found two 1970-S Small Dates. The rest are easily found.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

If you get stuck, there is no shame in buying the cents to fill the last two or three holes.

I'm going to go for it. I picked up a box of cents yesterday to get started. Jbuck - do I post results of the boxes and filling up the holes here or in the main cent roll hunting thread. I don't want to post it in the wrong place .

This is your thread, feel free to post your progress here. Maybe you can post overall box results in the main thread and actual holes filled in this one.

Looks really nice! You may want to post that one in the grading forum to get more eyes on it.
