This topic has run before but not quite the same. I'm not talking about spending modern clad halves or Sac dollars, I'm looking for stories from those of you who chose to put coins in circulation that others will gladly pluck out.

How many of you will take extra Indian Head cents, Buff Nickels, Mercs, etc., and spend them on purpose hoping to bring a bright moment to some other roll hunter or collector's day? I enjoy doing this whenever I can & will even buy undervalued silver rolls for the purpose. I'm not rich, I'm mostly sane, and I don't often use BU coins (wheat cents are the exception). I just like making random acts of kindness part of my coin hobby. Sometimes the reaction I get from the person at the cash register is just the start of the fun. Here's an example:

Yesterday morning I was going to the post office where there are a couple of coin lovers who collect sets using only coins that come across the counter. I try to be helpful by bringing some extra "special" coins with me. Yesterday I just left a Merc dime behind but I got a little smile. Then I stopped by the grocery store and when I checked out I pulled all the change from my pocket to come up with 83 cents to get the exact $50.83.

I used a clad half dollar [not special], a merc, a silver rosie, two '37 indian nickels and 3 shiny 1958 Lincolns. The fun part was that the only thing that caused any reaction at all was the beat-up 1973 half dollar. She had to look at it closely a couple of times to determine whether it was a real "50-cent piece" or a dollar coin. Everything else was just tossed by size into the proper slot in the register! It didn't cost me all that much and made me smile. With any luck they'll make it into rolls at the bank for one of the local CRHunters!

Anybody else have a story?

Until next time...

I've been wanting to put a few extra wheats into some rolls. No specific stories.
Rest in Peace

Well done!

I should probably do something like this, but too many of my transactions are electronic now.

I have some 30+ year old Mastercards, but that's not really the same is it?

Seed the rolls, folks! Seed the rolls! Keep CRHunting alive by donating your extra collectible coins to the cause!

I have a few competitors of Coin Roll Hunters around my area, and we'll try hide in some cool coins for each other. It's a really nice gesture.

I haven't done this with silver dimes but Indians, V and Buffalo nickels and Wheat cents....yes.

I always throw some fun coins in the Fireman's boots Memorial Day weekend (as well as some paper money) and regularly will spend older nickels and cents. I gave away some old Buffalo's with Halloween candy. It's all fun!
Rest in Peace

I carry a small bag of of Indians, Buffalos, steel cents when I go shopping, give 'em out to kids 6-10 or so (ask parents first so don't get arrested as a pervert!). Never know, older ones may try to find out more, younger ones just think it's cool to have something that old. New interests maybe?
