Walmart is trying to get into the half dollar distribution

I went to Wal Mart today.
When I got int the lobby there was a machine "Whistle Stop"
serviced by a company whose name is Sunshine phone number
is 866 786 9717. The machine had in it a
1942 Walking Liberty
1943 Walking Liberty
1945 walking Liberty
1951 Franklin
1957 Franklin
1958 Franklin
1960 Franklin
1963 Franklin
All in 2x2s
All you had to do was put fifty cents int the slot stop the machine at the correct spot and you could WIN (purchase) one of thes coins or lose your money!

I called the company and aske if they knew the grades of the coins in the machine. They asked me what a grade was!!!

so if you want to trhow away good money trying to buy a circulated coin in a 2x2, May I recommend Walmart and Sunshine company.

I have never seen this. Is this something new? It actually isn't a bad idea for getting kids interested in coin collecting. (As long as they don't continue to buy their coins from there.)

Wouldn't that be considered gambling? Sorta like a slot machine, you might win, you might not?

All those machines at the Walmart entrances are like gambling. Guess they want to get our kids started out right? Lots of parents playing those games as I know my little one will get me over there ocassionally. Well at least its not junk and who knows, maybe if they don't know what "Grading" is perhaps they won't know what a "Key" date is?

It's kind of like the machine that hooks toys in the movie Toy story only instead of a hook, the rack in the center rotates -(at a fairly fast speed) and if you can line up the prize with the slot when it stops you win one of the prizes (prizes included CDs, coins and toys.

Sorry Gang it's not gambling..! If the machine was paying out money instead of obsolete coins it would then be considered gambling. Since it is giving out old coins they are considered Merchandise and is the same as teddy bears, plastic rings ect.

You should be glad of this since it's that same regulation that allowes you to send coins through the mail.

Catman, If it is not gambling then how come I walk away empty handed most of the time? They are games of chance that many parents can't even beat! Even though I must admit I am getting quite good, thanks to my little guy, at some of those games. Now Catman let me just say this "Every day you get up is a gamble as well as everything we do! It just seems the odds are greater with some things than others, you know what I mean? Now you want to gamble, send a package out with any delivery service and mention coins on the outside of the package! Now that would be real gambling that Vegas wouldn't even take odds on! Thank God for the words "numismatic items" or "hobby supplies"! Cash, coins or collectables is NOT good on a package!

Although coins can be shipped, the post office will not insure them. You're correct, the term "Numismatic Items" makes things so much easier. The post office WILL insure numismatic items (I think they think it has to do with a power tool or something). But the USPS states quite emphatically that they will not insure coins or currency.

UPS, Fed Ex, USPS, and all the rest have rules stating that you cannot ship nor insure coins or currency. Yet all those mentioned routinely set up booths and ship from all the major coin shows. Thousands of dollars exchanging hands in insurance fees and postage for items that they openly admit that they will not ship. Double standard perhaps? Greed? Don't ask, Don't tell?
Seems to me that anyone claiming not to do something and them turning around and doing it anyways.....is less than honest and reputable. I know, what other alternative do we have?
