I am trying to learn more about spotting suspicious coins on ebay. I see this listing for a 1964 Washington quarter. The photo this seller has for this and other coins are out of focus and the quarter in question look gloppy. Am I right to stay clear of this coin? http://r.ebay.com/JKmkHX
While it's certainly possible to fake a proof, I doubt they would pick 1964. That is a very common year. IMO this one is probably fine but I would pass based on the price.
Although I definitely trust everyone's opinion on this being real, I also see what you're talking about. I find it hard to think that any gem proofs are real though...They all look chrome plated to me.
He has a perfect method to cover up the blemishes and distractions on these proof coins! not a straight forward seller otherwise he would have shown what the coin is really like without creating so much glare on it in the Pics!
