I am trying to learn more about spotting suspicious coins on ebay. I see this listing for a 1964 Washington quarter. The photo this seller has for this and other coins are out of focus and the quarter in question look gloppy. Am I right to stay clear of this coin? http://r.ebay.com/JKmkHX

While it's certainly possible to fake a proof, I doubt they would pick 1964. That is a very common year. IMO this one is probably fine but I would pass based on the price.

I've known this seller for a couple years. The proofs are worth looking through, as I've scored a couple nice doublers for about a buck apiece.

Although I definitely trust everyone's opinion on this being real, I also see what you're talking about. I find it hard to think that any gem proofs are real though...They all look chrome plated to me.

He has a perfect method to cover up the blemishes and distractions on these proof coins! not a straight forward seller otherwise he would have shown what the coin is really like without creating so much glare on it in the Pics!

I'm sure it is authentic. And not an expensive purchase.

Go ahead and place a bid and if you win post pictures once it's in hand.
