I am absolutely frustrated. My LCS sells coin tubes that are designed to fit either dimes or pennies. I buy uncirculated rolls of cents from them. The rolls come in old tarnished tubes and I purchase a tube that is supposed to fit them. I bought two rolls of 1973 cents and these tubes just don't fit them properly. I have this feeling they are discreetly designed for pennies that have been released after 1982. There should be some kind of disclaimer about that. I frequently put Shield cents into these tubes and they fit like a dream.

All Lincoln cents are 19MM. If the tubes don't fit, take them back.

What your saying really doesn't make much sense . There is no difference in diameter of 1973 cents from those made after 1982 . Were the 73's in paper wrappers and then put into their old tubes . If so then that makes sense .

The inserts to the mold are the likely culprit. As the inserts wear (probably more so during cleanings I suspect) and result in smaller internal diameters. Draft angle in the mold also contribute to tighter fits at the base. Plastic shrinkage factors also come into play either due to composition or temperature of the mold during ejection. Since these are mass produced using cheap/inexpensive plastic there is significant variability tool-to-tool and lot-to-lot. One batch you buy may work out but not the next. As folks here have stated, return and replace. However, these are also bought and sold in bulk. Chances are your source is sitting on a pile of discrepant tubing. You may need to return for a refund and wait a bit before buying again.

It might be that the tube were placed somewhere
with heat and that shrank the tubes' diameter.

Take a few cents with you and try them in the store before you buy?
