Man, I was so surprised to hear about this set, I used to love buying these awhile ago. These were some of my favorites, the proof Kookaburra. I like too that the set doesn't have the tacky APMEX name all over the box like they did with the Libertad set lol Think I am going to have to start collecting Kooks again lol

You are right-- it is beautiful. Those Australian Perth Mint series are all fantastic looking. You should start collecting them again, that is a great idea. And I am not sure of the proof quality, because I don't have any-- but I can honestly say that of all my Australian Perth Mint BU bullion-- of which I have a lot-- I don't recall ever seeing a milk spot on any of them. I try not to collect anything Canadian for the most part, except the traditional one a year Maple Leaf, due to all the milk spot issues. If it were in my budget, I would pick up this set. Alas, I have overspent this month and next month already!

@crazyglue My friend, I have indeed re-started collecting Kooks, I am back in the fold after oh man a long time and I kicked it off with this set. Receiving this set reminds me of when I first discovered this set over a decade and a half, man I been missing their proofs, just like in the old days. Not that I am against their HR proofs, but these are classics. I agree with you, these Perth Mint silver coins, bullion and proofs are great. I looked over my old series and not a single milk spot. Man, so exciting to get into the series again. I hear you on overspending, god I been racking it up as of late lol I hope one day you can get a Kook proof, they are the perfect pairing to the already beautiful bullion coin!

@yup7676 I am glad you are excited and back in it with them. Although I don't collect privy or proof very often (sheer volume of coins on the privy and milk spots on the proof), the Kookaburra is the one series that I would make an exception on. Maybe I will pick it up and just go over budget. It is a self imposed budget, so if I slip up I only have to answer to myself. You should post some pics of the coin (not the APMEX, but your own) if you get a chance some time. That will probably tip me over the edge.

Got one of these sets delivered yesterday. It is very nice. No APMEX branding like you said, just a nice Perth Mint swan logo on inside of the lid. I was very pleased when I examined the COA.

Just a couple things-
1- Debrajc that wasnt my set, thats Mr1030's set, which man, talk about doing well on getting the top COA number.
2- did you guys see these sets, both 69s and 70s showed up on MCM and auctions went for around 70-80s depending on grade.
Note to self- continue to believe that sets, coins issued by a dealer with a Mint are a bad deal for collectors and its better to wait to see if they show up at auction.
I do like my set a lot, just should have waited longer to get it. It did spark a return to Kooks tho. Surprised that Kook collectors do not understand the significance of this coin, that proof one that is.

Mints are linguistic experts. I fell for all that super low mintage nonsense myself years ago. I even bought a few of these sets just to resell the proofs and get a BU for free and some profit. When they say there is a strict mintage of 1000 it makes you feel like if you don't get it you are really missing out on something. Then a little while into the year they release 10000 High Relief Proofs using same dyes and make them slightly concave. Basically the only thing they really made only 1000 of was the box it came in with the year 2017 on it& . Not saying you can't make a profit off them. Fortunately there are still alot of individuals out there with more dollars than sense. I did the same thing with alot of the Canadian "once in a lifetime" sets. The prescious metals industry is a massive racket. You got to buy low and sell high. That's it. Sovereigns, Bars and Rounds that are mainstays and that can be turned into liquid quickly. Don't take this wrong. Those sets are gorgeous but it's just marketing at it's finest.

Mikey, and that's especially true if it's a single dealer exclusive
