This coin is not gold like the ones I've seen online. Could it be silver? Did the mint struck these coins in other medal alloy besides gold?

It's a fake. And a bad one at that. They only make them in gold

But why would any one waste so much time and effort to make such an obvious fake? It weigh 3.2 grams and feels like hard plastic or something.

Probably a contemporary counterfeit. It was intended to pass in circulation (at least once). Back when it was made five dollars would have had the purchasing power of several hundred dollars does today. So it would definitely be worth doing. Back when it was new it was probably have gold plated. Don't throw it away, there are those of use that like contemporary counterfeits.
