I've come across a coin my father bought in the summer of 1983-1984.
I've noticed all the coins I have researched are silver. Why is this one I have colored (see attached photos)

Cause someone intentionally colored it. It looks like it was an ex jewelry piece.
Rest in Peace

Painted with clear enamel and heat dried. The bezel around the periphery was tightened onto the coin so it could be worn as a necklace.

Welcome to the forum!

This coin is an after-market enamel colorization marketing ploy. It is only worth it's silver value to most dealers.

Since it is your father's hopefully it has more family heirloom value to it than the 15$ silver value!

Typical gimmick used by "collectibles" companies to fleece novices.

Because by coloring it someone saw a way to get people to pay $50 for $15. worth of silver.
