I have a 1960 D small date penny. I was wondering is it a D over D. The mint looks weird to me. Also is there something wrong with the date.

Can't tell for sure, not clear enough, Coin took a hit that would indicate if it had a split serif right there. Could have been a tilted D/D...since cannot be attributed then keep looking!

This is an example of a split serif D/D:

Clearer images would help, straight on shots instead of angled.
It is a small date, so that would narrow the search for an RPM down a little.

There are many RPM's for that year, so it is very possible that is what you have, but like I said, it is difficult to tell from the images posted.
Rest in Peace

Lelah, google clip-on magnifiers for phones. They make very inexpensive ones (under $20) that clip over the camera lens, then use book stacks to support your phone, adjust height by changing amount of books. This is about the cheapest way to take closeups. Have fun!

Thanks for the info on that clip on magnifier. That's an awesome idea. I bet who ever thought of that is rich by now.

Lelah, it depends on how cheap you want to be. I never got around to picking out a scope, so I've just stacked lenses on my phone which allows for acceptable macro shots but gives a very limited depth of field that you have to adjust manually. (In non photography terms, that means autofocus won't work, and you'll have to physically change the distance between the camera and coin until it's in focus.) I don't mean to hijack, but I'll throw in a picture of a die crack I took with my ghetto set up. If you're interested, I can walk you through it or provide a link to an instructable that does something similar, but involves more work (and tools).

That's a die crack into the top of Roosevelt's head. SKH-10c-2005-01. It's not as sharp as the images the scope folks are able to post, but I do think it's pretty darn good for a camera phone! (And it's an old phone with a lower megapixel rating, since I didn't want to tape anything onto the case of my current phone.)

Thanks for all the cool info. The last pic I used my cell and a magnifying glass to see it closer. I don't know if that helped.
