Hey guys..just got back from the bank and got some halves..was sorting and came across an odd roll. I found in it about 4 rainbows and in sequential order a 2003 set, 2004 set, and 2005 set..both p's and d's... Weird Huh..I needed those too : /..I didn't think those were in circulation?

That's the fun part of roll searching. You just never know what you will get.
Those dates are indeed not in circulation.

What's bad is that "somebody" at some point paid the $$$ the Mint charges for those rolls !....AND THAT CERTAINLY WASN'T FACE VALUE !........so you got a better deal than what's obvious !.....congrats !......

I just opened a box today. So far so good. Seven rolls gone through and retrieved a 66, 67, and 68D. Is there anything else I should be looking for other than the pre 70"s? I have no intention of collecting a set of halves. nlp

Oh, one other question. Why have I come across several halves that have the reeded edge sanded off. Is there some significance to that for machine use? Sorry for the double entry. nlp

There is a doubled die for 1974-D, any AU+ 1982s and 1983s( no mint sets issued), any without the initials on the reverse next to eagle(heavy die polishing), and any after 2001 since those were not released for circulation. quote: Why have I come across several halves that have the reeded edge sanded off?
More than likely, they were used in slot machines which wears the reeding down and the obv and rev usually look kind of beat up too.

Thanks biokemist6. So far 26-1995; 1-2001; 19-2006; a 64,66,67,and 68D. The silvers are circulated the others are mint like. Still have 29 rolls to go. Not so bad for the first time. nlp

Don't forget to look for: 1971d,1972,1973d,1974d Double die obverse. They will be easiest to see in the word TRUST, especially, the RUS 1972d,1982,1990 reverse missing FG initials (1966 also but you will be saving those for the 40%) 1987 both Plain and D mint were not issued so VERY hard to find in circulation These are the ones I check for. When looking for the DDO I make a pile and then go thru them all at once. For the missing FG initials I check those as I come across them.
